san jian = third interval; third space
Shu Stream and Wood point of the Hand Yang Ming (Large Intestine) channel
location: On the radial side of the index finger, proximal to the head of 2nd metacarpal bone, with the hand in a slight fist.
actions: dissipates Heat; brightens eyes; affects the Intestines and lower jaw; benefits throat; resolves constipation; frees the channels
indications: malaria; conjunctivitis; painful eyes; toothache; mouth dry and lips cracked; tonsillitis; sore throat; throat numb; throat blocked; dyspnea; bountiful Phlegm; diarrhea; constipation due to Shi (Excess) Heat; shoulder pain; brachial neuralgia; redness and swelling of the fingers and the dorsum of the hand; stiffness of the fingers
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.3 - 0.8 cun, towards the ulnar side
moxa: 2 - 3 cones of direct moxa; 3 - 5 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
