Jing Well, Metal and Dispersion point of the Foot Yang Ming (Stomach) channel; Departure point of the Foot Yang Ming (Stomach) Muscle channel; a small vessel connects St-45 with Sp-1, the Jing Well point of the Spleen channel
location: On the lateral side of the 2nd toe, 0.1 cun proximal to the corner of nail.
actions: pacifies the Shen; stimulates the Mind; facilitates flow of Qi; regulates Yin-Yang, opens the Orifices and resuscitates the senses; clears and disperses Heat from the upper body and Yang Ming (Stomach and Large Intestine) channels, esp. Stomach Heat; brightens the eyes; sedates pain
indications: seems as if dead due to insufficiency of blood to the brain; mania; hysteria; insomnia; excessive dreaming; dream-disturbed sleep; fever with no perspiration; fainting; frontal headache; eyes twitch; facial edema; epistaxis; acute rhinitis; cold nose; sinusitis; deviation of mouth; toothache; gingivitis; oral herpes; throat numb; pharyngitis; tonsillitis; epigastrium swollen; hepatitis; indigestion; painful abdominal distension; cold in lower leg and foot
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.1 - 0.3 cun, producing local pain and a sensation of distension, or prick to bleed
moxa: 1 - 3 cones of direct moxa; 3 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with Sp-1 (D) cures excess dreams and light sleep (Finkelstein, p. 24);
» with Sp-1 for "dreaming with heavy pressure sensation (as if unable to move)" (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 139);
» with CV-24 and St-4 for fever blisters on lip and mouth (Shanghai, p. 158);
» with Lu-2, SI-17, St-12, UB-11, UB-17, Lu-2, Lu-5, LI-2, Kd-1 and Kd-2 for throat blockage with Cold and Hot Obstruction (Shanghai, p. 691);
» with PC-6 reduces Stomach Fire (Finkelstein, p. 24).
