definition

po hu = po gate; corporeal soul door; animal soul door; soul shelter
psychospiritual associated point of the Fei (Lung)
location: 3 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of T-3, level with GV-12.
actions: regulates the Lung; diffuses Lung Qi; redirects Rebellious Qi downward; facilitates lactation
indications: lungs weak, empty, and paralyzed; "upper Qi"; bronchitis; asthma; pleurisy; pulmonary tuberculosis; atelectasis; stifling sensation in the chest; cough with profuse sputum; vomiting; difficult lactation; stiff neck; shoulder and back pain, esp. acute shoulder pain
needle technique: oblique insertion, 0.3 - 0.5 cun; according to The Illustrated Classic on Acupuncture Points as Found on the Bronze Figure, UB-37/42 disperses Qi Shi (Excess), so leave needle in a long time (Finkelstein, p. 47)
moxa: 3-7 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 15 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with GB-20, GV-16, GV-14, GB-1, LI-11, St-36, TW-6 and UB-36/41 for common cold (Shanghai, p. 575);
» with UB-38/43 to "provide a way to treat consumption" (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 221)
