bai huan shu = white ring hollow/correspondence
Extra Associated point of the anal sphincter (Mann, p. 36)
location: 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of S-4, level with the 4th sacral foramen.
actions: transforms Damp-Heat; consolidates Jing (Essence); regulates Qi of the anal sphincter; brings Yang into pelvic region which mobilizes Yin in the pelvis (Finkelstein, p. 46); sensitizes lumbar and pelvic regions
indications: quadriplegia; sequelae of infantile paralysis; colic; metritis; endometriosis; uterovaginal inflammation; amenorrhea; excessive uterine bleeding; vaginal discharge; spermatorrhea; painful urination; urine dark yellow or red; urinary incontinence, esp. due to paralysis; fecal incontinence; painful defecation; constipation; prolapse of rectum and/or anus; anal diseases; spasm of anus; pain in the lumbosacral region; sciatica; weakness of lower limb
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 1.0 - 1.5 cun, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension, possibly spreading to buttocks
moxa: 5 - 10 cones of direct moxa; 10 - 20 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with UB-54/40 for back pain extending to the waist (Shanghai, p. 215); for pain in the back and lumbus (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 215);
» with zi gong, Sp-10 and Sp-6 for chronic peritonitis (Shanghai, p. 215);
» with UB-32 stops vaginal discharges (Finkelstein, p. 46);
» with GV-1 retracts the ligaments supporting the anus (Finkelstein, p. 46);
» with GV-1 and UB-57 for prolapsed anus (Shanghai, p. 215).
