signs and symptoms: Epigastric or abdominal distention, indigestion, foul-smelling belching, acid regurgitation, nausea and vomiting, aversion to food, sometimes diarrhea.
tongue and pulse: Yellow, greasy tongue coating, and slippery pulse.
indications: Stomach Food Stagnation. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as acute gastroenteritis, acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis, indigestion, hepatitis, acute pancreatitis, acute or chronic cholecystitis, and diarrhea.
cautions and contraindications: Contraindicated in cases abdominal distention due to Spleen Xu (Deficiency).
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 9 grams: crataegus (shan zha), raphanus seed (lai fu zi).
» 6 grams: medicated leaven (shen qu), pinellia (ban xia), poria (fu ling), forsythia (lian qiao).
» 3 grams: citrus (chen pi).
modifications:
» for bad breath, add scute (huang qin) and coptis (huang lian).
» for more severe abdominal distention, add chih-shih (zhi shi) and magnolia bark (huo po).
» for constipation, add rhubarb (da huang) and areca seed (bing lang).
