definition

salt glow

1. seat patient on stool or in large bathtub
2. drape patient with sheet then with blanket
3. wet salt to sticky consistency
4. expose part to be treated, and moisten skin
5. rub on handful of salt until skin turns pink
6. do fingers, arms, toes, legs, chest, abdomen, back, hips, buttocks (in order)
7. remove salt with cool shower
8. rub skin during rinse
9. dry with vigorous friction
10. rest patient 30 min.

contraindications:
1. skin lesions
2. Cushing’s disease
3. peripheral vascular disease

note: rarely used in acute disease

general indications:
1. chronic indigestion
2. kidney disease
3. sluggish circulation
4. frequent colds
5. general weakness
6. cancer
