zhong zhu = central islet
Shu Stream, Wood and Tonification point of the Hand Xiao Yang (Triple Warmer) channel
location: On the dorsum of hand, between the 4th and 5th metacarpals, in the depression just proximal to the heads of the 4th and 5th metacarpals.
actions: clears Heat; dispels Wind and Wind-Heat; facilitates the circulation of Qi; clears the head and eyes; benefits the ear; opens the sensory Orifices; influences the thyroid and pancreas (Worsley, 1975, p. B-20); moistens Dryness, esp. the throat
indications: malarial disorders; intermittent fevers; fever with sweating; headache; vertigo; dizziness; partial hearing loss; deaf-mutism; tinnitus; deafness; otitis media; blurred vision; reddening of the eyes; conjunctivitis; pterygium; nasal congestion; pharyngitis; painful obstruction of the throat; throat swelling, soreness and dryness; pain in the shoulder and neck; intercostal neuralgia; pain in shoulder and midback; pain and weakness of the arm, elbow and fingers; inability to bend fingers, esp. to grasp objects tightly
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, or slanted toward the wrist, 1.0 - 2.0 cun, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension, sometimes spreading to the fingertips or forearm, or a numb, electrical feeling reaching the fingertips
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole

» with LI-1 and GB-40 for chronic tidal fever (Shanghai, p. 238);
» with TW-21 and TW-17 for deafness and tinnitus (Shanghai, p. 238);
» with Kd-3 for swollen throat (Shanghai, p. 238);
