human subtle energy centers:

• It has been postulated that there are force centers located on the surface of the electrosomatic energy field (or physical etheric body) which can be either seen or felt as rotating vortices in key areas along the midline of the body. Thus they have been named "chakras" or "wheels" (in Sanskrit) by the yogic metaphysiologists who first described their presence and characteristics thousands of years ago. They are focal points for the reception and transmission of energy from the ether (collective unconscious of man), the higher self, and from the emotional and mental bodies. These energies are then concentrated in the chakras for distribution to the various levels of human consciousness. In addition, the chakras receive for distribution the primary energy of life (prana, orgone). It is by virtue of the chakras that man has the capacity for heightened awareness and spiritual harmony.

To summarize the functions of the chakras:
» vitalize the physical, emotional, and mental attitudes
» directly associated with, "feed" specific endocrine and body parts
» create the different aspects of conscious existence
» by their effect on consciousness, may elevate awareness to spiritual harmony

Chakras have four identifying aspects. First, they are composed of subtle 'fibers' which give the respective centers their shape. Second, they possess their identifying shape. Third, there exists a subtle etheric energy which supports the shape and integrity of each center. Finally, when everything is in order, the chakras are composed of the energy which they receive and transmit. Each of these components must in turn be considered when therapeutics are being employed. (Easley)

• In the human energy cell, the input is the ray; the output, the aura.
The ray(s) of each individual are the main current of energy entering from the universe into the human being. There are seven different rays, in different combinations in different people, which serve to structure a person's potential, purpose, and challenges. The ray is a stream of electromagnetic energy that enters through the crown chakra (pineal center) as a vortex or cone of light. The chakras are the dynamic distributing centers of the ray, literally "auxiliary distribution centers on the main power line from the universe".

The ray enters the crown as pure light and is prismed into seven different qualities. The current activates the body, which begins to radiate. As the energy moves down the brow chakra the pituitary refracts and distributes the light through the body by way of the chakras. The pituitary is the master regulator: as a gland hormonally and a subtle body distributor energetically.

The energy becomes progressively more dense as it moves down through the chakras, each chakra drawing the energy it requires. Each chakra vibrates at a characteristic frequency as it transmits energy, which creates characteristic energy patterns corresponding to certain colors and tones. When the energy returns back up through the chakras the pituitary center functions as a synthesizer, integrating the component energies once again into pure white light.

As the ray is the input, the aura is the output, or emanation. The aura displays the person's present and past experiences. Everything a persons' particular energy field has experienced through the ages has produced patterns in the emanation or auric field. These patterns exist as particle waves of light of varying frequencies and amplitudes. The human aura is a three-dimensional field of vortices that move in different directions and together make up an elliptical shape of different levels of density and colors. The energy fields become progressively subtler as they move away from the human body. There are seven auric fields: physical, emotional, mental, paraconscious, causal, and cosmic or spiritual. (Schwartz, p. 13-44)

the spine's relationship to chakra energy:
The spine acts as a lightning rod or antenna conducting energy which moves vertically through the top of the head, down the spine, into the pelvis, down the legs and out through the feet. As energy moves down the spine it encounters the curves in the spine. The energy flowing down the spine can be likened to the currents in a river, the curves of the spine to the bend in the river, and the vortices of chakra energy to the whirlpool-like movement of the water as it flows around the bend and creates an eddy, or energy vortex. (Smith, p. 52)

• The seven chakras reflect the seven colors of the rainbow (though not in rainbow order), and represent the notes of the major scale, beginning with the base note C. "The chakras are truly the windows through which enter the light and harmony of the universe." (Serinus, p. 163)
