Increase oxidation of tissues
Integrative Therapies

definition

Treatment Principle #6.
Increase oxidation of tissues through exercise and breathing disciplines

• demonstrated positive relationships between hardiness and: perception of physical, emotional, and spiritual health; participation in prayer and meditation; and participation in exercise and the use of special diets. 201
• Individuals undergoing aerobic training reported no increases in anxiety and depression in response to notification of a positive HIV-1 serologic status. Aerobic exercise training program may enhance certain critical components of cellular immunity as well as acting as a buffer for the detrimental mood changes that typically accompany stress. 202
• Long-term survivors with AIDS generally engage in physical fitness/exercise programs. 203
• Exercise intervention attenuates emotional distress and natural killer cell decrements following notification of positive serologic status for HIV-1. 204
• During the nonacute stage of AIDS, progressive resistance exercise induced physiologic adaptation that improved muscle function and increased body dimensions and mass. 205
