definition
third chakra:
The third chakra is supported by the five heavy vertebrae that make up the lumbar curve, and is specifically related to our personal power and energy control. The middle of this curve is opposite the navel, our original source of energy. Of the four weight bearing curves of the spine, the lumbar and cervical curves (unlike the sacrum and thorax) have no additional bony support systems to assist carrying their load. The 'free standing' quality of the two former spinal segments relates to the personal initiative associated with the third and fifth chakras, 'personal power' and 'personal creativity', respectively. (Smith, p. 55)
Located in the solar plexus and the stomach, it relates to the emotions (gut feelings), as well as to the spleen and pancreas. Meditation helps translate emotions into feelings, which in turn can be translated into sensitivity, enabling us to hear another's needs and to give appropriately. Meditation on this chakra engenders balance and sensitivity to both self and other. COLOR IS YELLOW, KEYNOTE IS E. (Serinus, p. 166)
Represents the impulse of desire, aspirations. Establishes the primary motives, incentives, and the focus of ambitions. Passion and zeal. Relates self-awareness and appreciation. Expression of personality. Self-interest. Desire is the key which unlocks the emotions and allows the productive development of harmonious aspirations. It is the link between the astral body, the individual, and the environment, and thereby becomes the instrument of emotional expression. It allows the transmutation of emotions and the propensity to altruistic aspirations. The ultimate outcome is personal evolution. Associated with spleen, pancreas, liver, gall bladder, and digestive system. (Easley)
Splenic plexus: Life process; center of solar energy; it is differentiated by the individual's own field.
Solar plexus: Emotional center; usually well developed (one should avoid meditating on it). (Van Gelder)
