The Palace of the Bone Marrow (Mann, p. 47); Jiao Hui Intersecting point of the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) on the Foot Xiao Yin (Kidney) channel
location: 0.5 cun lateral from the anterior midline on the abdomen, 2 cun inferior to the umbilicus, level with CV-5.
actions: regulates the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel); reinforces Kidney Qi; clears the Water Pathways
indications: abdominal pain, esp. below the umbilicus; ascites; diarrhea; dysentery; constipation; "white turbid urethral discharge" (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 256); hernia; postpartum abdominal pain; irregular menstruation; metrorrhagia; uterine hemorrhaging; spermatorrhea
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.5 - 1.0 cun, producing local pain and a sensation of distension
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 20 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with Lv-4 for "drumlike abdomen" (Shanghai, p. 292)
