location: 4 cun posterior to the anterior hairline, 1.5 cun from midline, 1 cun anterior and 1.5 cun lateral to Bai Hui (GV-20).
actions: dispels Wind, Wind-Cold and Wind-Heat, esp. from the upper body; disperses the surface; connects with the brain; clears the nose
indications: hysteria; insomnia; amnesia; convulsions; cerebrovascular accident; vertigo; headache; pain and heaviness at the vertex; hemiplegia; facial paralysis; facial neuralgia; facial swelling; dizziness; weak eyesight; sinusitis; nasal obstruction; rhinorrhea; purulent rhinitis; epistaxis; loss of sense of smell; mouth awry; torticollis; cervical adenitis; dyspnea; chronic bronchitis; goiter; asthma
needle technique: transverse insertion, toward the front or back of the head, 0.5 - 1.0 cun, producing a local sensation of distension; or horizontal insertion 0.5 - 1.0 cun
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with GV-23, yin tang and LI-4 for rhinitis (Shanghai, p. 143);
» with tai yang, GB-20 and LI-4 for headache (Shanghai, p. 143);
» with UB-6 for mouth awry, watery nasal discharge (Shanghai, p. 143) .
