Dianthus F. = Ba Zheng San = "Eight-Herb Powder for Rectification"

signs and symptoms: Dark, scanty, difficult, and painful urination, dry mouth and throat, constipation, lower abdominal distention and pain.
tongue and pulse: Yellow, greasy tongue coating, and slippery, rapid pulse.
indications: Damp-Heat in the Lower Warmer. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as gonococcal infections with fever, acute nephritis, cystitis, urethritis, urinary tract calculi, and prostatitis.
cautions and contraindications: Long-term use may cause lightheadedness, weakness, palpitations, and loss of appetite. Contraindicated in chronic disease with weak constitution and in pregnancy.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 10 grams: talc (hua shi).
» 6 grams: akebia (mu tong), pink dianthus (qu mai), polygonum (bian xu), juncus (deng xin cao), plantago seed (che qian zi), rhubarb (da huang).
» 3 grams: gardenia (zhi zi), honey-baked licorice (zhi gan cao).
modifications:
» for bloody painful urinary dysfunction, increase the dosage of polygonum (bian xu) and add imperata (bai mao gen) and segetum (xiao ji).
» for stony painful urinary dysfunction, add lysimachia (jin qian cao), lygodium spores (hai jin sha), pyrrosia leaf (shi wei) and achyranthes (niu xi).
» for urinary retention, increase the dosage of akebia (mu tong), talc (hua shi) and polygonum (bian xu), and add phellodendron (huang bai) and cinnamon bark (rou gui).
