definition

ting hui = reunion of hearing; hearing assembly
location: Anterior to the infratragic notch below Ting Gong (SI-19) in the depression when the mouth is slightly open.
actions: eliminates Wind and Cold; clears Wind-Heat; clarifies the senses; clears blockage and restores circulation of Qi in the Gall Bladder and channel near the ear; invigorates the Liver and Gall Bladder; relaxes the sinews and tendons
indications: sadness; convulsions; hemiplegia; tinnitus; deafness; pain inside ears; otitis media; otorrhea; dumbness; toothache; facial paralysis; mouth awry; jaw swollen; dislocated jaw; arthritis of the mandibular joint; parotitis; aversion to cold food and drinks (Mann, p. 59)
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, with mouth open, slightly posterior direction, 0.3 - 1.0 cun, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension; have patient close mouth after insertion.
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with TW-4 for deafness;
» with TW-21 opens the ear; spreads the Qi; benefits hearing (Flaws, 1989, p. 86; Finkelstein, p. 65);
» with UB-63 for deafness due to Cold damage (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 301).
