water exercise: shoulder
all exercises done standing in shoulder-high water
1. knees slightly bent, arms at sides, palms facing forward, pull arms up through water while bending the elbow
2. with arms at sides and elbows bent, palms facing down, push arm through water
3. with arms at sides, push arms through water to extend out to sides, shoulder height
4. with arms hanging in front of thigh, move one arm at a time through water to bring it to shoulder height
5. arms extended out at shoulder height, bring to front to touch fingers
6. arms extended out at shoulder height, bring down through water to cross in front of abdomen
7. like exercise #6, but arms cross in back
8. arms extended in front to shoulder height, palms facing down; push arms through water as far back as possible, then bring them forward through water with palms facing outward
9. with arms extended out at shoulder height, do straight arm circles
10. do bent arms circles with elbows, at shoulder height
11. holding onto ledge of pool with one arm, other arm bent 90°, swing bent arm from side to front of body; repeat with other arm
recommended program schedule:
week 1 and 2: do first 3 exercises, 3 days per week, 2 sets of 10 reps
week 3 and 4: add 2 more exercises each week, 5 days a week, 3 sets of 10 reps
week 5 and 6: continue to add exercises, 6 days a week, 4 sets of 10 reps
