location: On the lateral aspect of the chest, in the 4th intercostal space, 1 cun lateral to the nipple, at the lateral edge of the breast tissue.
actions: influences Heart (+ or -); opens the chest; diffuses Lung Qi; suppresses cough; calms dyspnea; clears Lung Heat; supervises the Xue (Blood); expedites and facilitates lactation; removes Obstruction of Qi circulation in Jue Yin channels
indications: restlessness; malaise; person presents with a fever and headache, but no perspiration and a sensation of melancholy and emotional distress in the chest, particularly the diaphragm (Mann, p. 51); foggy vision; dyspnea; pain and distension of the breast, esp. caused by Liver Qi Stagnation; insufficient lactation; mastitis; stifling sensation in the chest; rib pain; axillary swelling; axillary adenitis; paralysis of four extremities
needle technique: lateral oblique or horizontal insertion, 0.3 - 0.5 cun; perpendicular insertion, 0.2 - 0.3 cun; sedate to calm Heart; stimulate to activate Heart; forbidden to needle on females (Worsley)
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole; forbidden to moxa on females (Worsley)
