Rehmannia and Akebia F. = Dao Chi San = "Guide Out the Red Powder"

signs and symptoms: Fatigue, flushed face, irritability, thirst for cold, sores on the mouth or tongue; also for dark, scanty, and painful urination, or blood in the urine.
tongue and pulse: red tongue and rapid pulse.
indications: Heat in the Heart and Small Intestine Channels. With the appropriate presentation, this formula may be used in treating conditions conventionally diagnosed as nightmares, stomatitis, acute cystitis, urethritis, difficult urination, and glomerulonephritis.
cautions and contraindications: Use with caution in cases with Spleen and Stomach Xu (Deficiency).
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 15 grams raw rehmannia (sheng di huang).
» 3 grams: akebia (mu tong), licorice (gan cao), lophatherum (dan zhu ye).
modifications:
» for ulcerated sores around the mouth, combine with Hoelen Five Herb F. (Wu Ling San).
» for Yin Xu (Deficiency), add dendrobium (shi hu) and anemarrhena (zhi mu).
» for blood in the urine, add eclipta (han lian cao) and imperata (bai mao gen).
