exercise

deep breathing exercises: at first sign of cold; inhale deeply, hold breath for slow count to 20, exhale deeply, hold for slow count to 10, repeat 40-50x daily (Thrash, 1981, p. 107)
vigorous exercise: to induce sweat, stop and switch to hydrotherapy if headache, pain, muscle soreness(Thrash, 1981, p. 107)


hydrotherapy

hot nasal irrigation: two to three times a day at beginning of cold
enema: hot water, at beginning of cold
hot foot bath: at first symptoms, keep feet in bath for 20 min., then run cold water over them and dry, 1 hr. before bed
• steam inhalation


manipulation

• spine: upper cervical adjustment
spleen pump massage: compress back side ribs #9-12 while pushing up under diaphragm with other hand as patient inhales deeply, to compress spleen. Hold 10 seconds, repeat 6X


electrical and oscillating

• diathermy: to increase blood supply
• ultraviolet: use long tapered electrode
