Aconite, Ginseng and Ginger C. = Fu Zi Li Zhong Wan = "Prepared Aconite Pill to Regulate the Middle"

signs and symptoms: Abdominal and epigastric pain better with pressure, vomiting and diarrhea, no thirst, inability to keep food down, cold body with very cold extremities, mild sweating; also for chronic or recurrent aphthous ulcers due to Xu (Deficiency) Cold of the Spleen and Stomach.

tongue and pulse: White coat with deep, slow and faint pulse.

indications: Spleen Yang Xu (Deficiency) with Stomach Xu (Deficiency) and Cold. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as acute and chronic gastroenteritis, gastric distention, gastroduodenal ulcer, gastrectasis, gastroptosis, chronic colitis, cholera, and toxemia during pregnancy.

cautions and contraindications: Because this formula contains ingredients that warm and dry, it should not be used for externally contracted conditions with fever or Yin Xu (Deficiency). In vomiting and diarrhea, its use should be discontinued once the vomiting and diarrhea have stopped.

ingredients: dosage for two days:

» 10 grams: ginseng (ren shen).

» 6 grams: white atractylodes (bai zhu), dry ginger (gan jiang).

» 3 grams: aconite (fu zi), honey-baked licorice (gan cao).

modifications:

» to replenish the Yang more strongly, add cinnamon bark (rou gui).
