signs and symptoms: Apprehensiveness with timidity, or incessant laughter and glee; palpitations, anxiety and forgetfulness.
tongue and pulse:
indications: Heart Qi Xu (Deficiency). With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as anxiety neurosis, and obsessive compulsive disorders.
cautions and contraindications:
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 9 grams: ginseng (ren shen), poria (fu ling).
» 6 grams: acorus (chang pu), polygala (yuan zhi).
modifications:
» for severe palpitations, add dragon bone (long gu) and amber (hu po).
» for upward rebellion of Phlegm, add pinellia (ban xia) and bamboo sap (zhu li).
» for Heart Xue Xu (Blood Deficiency), add Chinese angelica (tang kuei) (dang gui), zizyphus (suan zao ren) and longan (long yan rou).
