definition and etiology

» conventional diagnoses: bronchitis with chronic dry, scratchy cough; asthma

» etiology: Liver Qi Stagnation due to protracted and/or intense anger evolves into Liver Fire; usually also involves excessive dietary consumption of Hot and greasy foods (Heat producing).

signs and symptoms

signs and syptoms:

• cough

• yellow or blood-tinged expectoration

dyspnea

fullness and stuffiness of chest and hypochondrium

• red face

headache

• dizziness

• thirst

• bitter taste in mouth

• scanty dark urine

• constipation.

» pulse: wiry, slippery

» tongue: red, esp. on sides; swollen in front; yellow coating

» principle of treatment: clear Liver Fire; harmonize the Liver; stimulate descending of Lung Qi
