signs and symptoms: Weak constitution, lingual ulcerations, absent lingual papillae, chronic gastritis, numb and aching tongue, bitter taste in the mouth, persistent thirst.
tongue and pulse: Weak or soft pulse.
indications: Stomach Yin Xu (Deficiency). With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as stomatitis or aphthous stomatitis and reddened tongue after a fever; ulceration of a reddened tongue caused by weak Qi, postpartum hemorrhage, or malignant carcinoma; numbness and loss of the sense of taste due to chronic gastritis.

ingredients: dosage for one day:
» 3.5 grams: white atractylodes (bai zhu), poria (fu ling).
» 3 grams: ginseng (ren shen), ophiopogon (mai men dong), Chinese angelica (tang kuei) (dang gui), white peony (bai shao yao).
» 2 grams: figwort (xuan shen).
» 1 gram: licorice (gan cao), schizandra (wu wei zi).
» 0.5 grams: cimicifuga (sheng ma).
