Jin Ling Zi San = "Melia Toosendan Powder"

signs and symptoms: Intermittent abdominal pain, hernial pain, or menstrual pain worse with hot food or beverages; and irritability.
tongue and pulse: red tongue with a yellow coating, and a wiry or rapid pulse.
indications: Liver Qi Constraint with Heat. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, hepatitis, and cholecystitis.
cautions and contraindications: Use with caution during pregnancy.
ingredients:
» 30 grams: melia (jin ling zi), corydalis (yan hu suo).
administration: Grind the ingredients into a fine powder and take in 9 gram doses with wine or water. May also be prepared as a decoction with a proportionate reduction in dosage.
modifications:
» for painful menstruation, add cyperus (xiang fu), salvia (dan shen), carthamus (hong hua) and leonurus (yi mu cao).
» for hernial disorders of the lower abdomen, add tangerine seed (ju he). If there are also significant signs of Cold, add evodia (wu zhu yu) and fennel (xiao hui xiang).
