Jiao Hui Intersecting point of the Yang channels on the Du Mai (Governing Vessel), hence Intersection point of all Yang channels; Entry point of the Sea of Qi, with GV-13
location: Inferior to the spinous process of the 7th cervical vertebra, on the posterior midline.
diagnostic uses: palpable thickness around GV-14 indicates imbalance in fat metabolism (Matsumoto)
actions: relieves Exterior conditions; dissipates Wind and Cold; clears, cools, drains and disperses Heat; reduces fever; induces sweating; stimulates the immune system, increases white blood cell count, and prevents or slows inflammation; clears and awakens the Brain and Mind; clears the Shen, calms the Soul, and pacifies the Will; stimulates the Bone Marrow to reach the Brain (Maciocia, p. 257); opens and restores the Yang by spreading Yang Qi through the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) and whole body; regulates and stimulates the flow of Qi; regulates the Xue (Blood); clears the throat and stimulates the thyroid; restores collapsed Yin; opens the Lung and transforms Phlegm; clears Lung Heat; relaxes the sinews and tendons
indications: psychosis; hysteria; neurasthenia; fever and chills; tidal fever; Summer-Heat diseases; malaria; heat stroke; febrile convulsions; seizures; St. Vitus' Dance; tetanus; paralysis; hypertension; headache; retinal hemorrhage; epistaxis; gingivitis; common cold due to Wind-Heat; pertussis; bronchitis; asthma; pulmonary tuberculosis; emphysema; fullness of chest; hepatitis; jaundice; steaming bone syndrome; neck stiffness and pain; spinal stiffness, esp. lumbar spine; eczema; urticaria
needle technique: perpendicular or oblique insertion superiorly, 0.5 - 1.0 cun, producing local soreness and distension, possibly spreading downward or to both shoulders
moxa: 3 - 7 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 15 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
