Cyperus and Perilla C. = Xiang Su San = Cyperus and Perilla Leaf Powder

signs and symptoms: Common cold, stiff shoulders, fever and chills without sweating, headache or heavy-headedness, a stifling sensation in the chest and epigastrium, poor appetite and nausea.
tongue and pulse: thin, white tongue coating and floating pulse.
indications: Exterior Wind-Cold with Qi Constrained in the Interior. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as common cold, neurasthenia, stomach flu, abdominal pain of emotion origin, amenorrhea, food poisoning caused by eating toxic fish, anosmia, nasal congestion, eructations, and vomiting.
cautions and contraindications:
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 6 grams: cyperus (xiang fu), perilla (zi su ye).
» 3 grams: citrus (chen pi), honey-baked licorice (zhi gan cao).
modifications:
» for severe headache, add vitex (man jing zi).
» for coughing with copious sputum, add perilla fruit (su zi) and pinellia (ban xia).
» with indigestion, add malt (mai ya) and medicated leaven (shen qu).
» with abdominal fullness, add chih-ko (zhi ke) and magnolia bark (hou po).
