signs and symptoms: Clonic muscles spasms, fatigue; often the patient will appear as if he/she is about to go into shock.
tongue and pulse: Deep-red tongue with a scanty or peeled coating, and deficient or frail pulse.
indications: Liver Wind Stirring due to Yin Xu (Deficiency). With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as advanced stage epidemic encephalitis and meningitis, clonic convulsions, Wilson's disease, athetosis, sclerosis of the funiculus lateralis.
cautions and contraindications: Contraindicated in cases of Yin and Fluid Xu (Deficiency) with strong Pathogenic Qi remaining in the body.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 10 grams: fresh rehmannia (sheng di huang), ophiopogon (mai men dong).
» 9 grams: white peony (bai shao yao), tortoise plastron (gui dan), tortoise shell (bei jia), oyster shell (mu li).
» 6 grams: gelatin (e jiao), schizandra (wu wei zi), linum (huo ma ren).
» 3 grams: honey-baked licorice (gan cao).
1 egg yolk.
modifications:
» for wheezing and labored breathing with Qi Xu (Deficiency), add ginseng (ren shen).
» for spontaneous sweating with Qi Xu (Deficiency), add dragon bone (long gu), ginseng (ren shen), and triticum (fu xiao mai).
» for palpitations with Qi Xu (Deficiency), add poria center (fu shen), ginseng (ren shen) and triticum (fu xiao mai).
