Minor Trichosanthes F. = Xiao Xian Xiong Tang = "Minor Sinking Into the Chest Decoction".

signs and symptoms: Feeling of oppression and distention in the chest, worse with pressure; coughing up sticky yellow sputum, borborygmus, diarrhea or constipation, a bitter taste in the mouth.
tongue and pulse: Yellow, greasy tongue coat and slippery pulse that is either slippery or rapid.
indications: Heated Phlegm which constrains the Lung Qi. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as pneumonia, bronchitis, pleurisy, angina pectoris, acute or chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, dyspepsia, cholecystitis, icteric hepatitis, and intercostal neuralgia.
cautions and contraindications: Contraindicated in cases with significant Spleen and Stomach Qi Xu (Deficiency).
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 9 grams: trichosanthes seed (gua lou ren).
» 3 grams: pinellia (ban xia).
» 1 gram: coptis (huang lian).
modifications:
» for vomiting, add bamboo shavings (zhu ru) and fresh ginger (sheng jiang).
» for myocardial infarction, add persica (tao ren), carthamus (hong hua), pteropus (wu ling zhi) and bulrush pollen (pu huang).
