Yuan Source point of the Foot Yang Ming (Stomach) channel
location: In the depression between the 2nd and 3rd cuneiforms and the 2nd and 3rd metatarsals, or lateral to dorsalis pedis pulse at the high point of the dorsum of the foot.
diagnostic uses: pulse at St-42 registers state of the Yin
actions: pacifies the Shen and calms the Mind; dispels Wind; reduces Fire Shi (Excess) in Yang Ming (Stomach and Large Intestine); clears Stomach Fire and Heat; regulates and treats various disorders of the face and neck; supports Earth and transforms Dampness; tonifies Stomach and Spleen; tonifies Stomach channel and the internal duct of the Triple Warmer (Finkelstein, p. 22); harmonizes the Stomach
indications: insanity; mania; engages in bizarre behavior such as undressing in public, wandering aimlessly, climbing on tables to dance and sing; episodic madness, usually monthly; malaria; fever, esp. without perspiration; always cold, seeks warmth (Mann, p. 17); headache, esp. frontal; facial paralysis; facial hemiplegia; facial edema; toothache; gingivitis; anorexia; vomiting; yawning; pain, inflammation and swelling on dorsum of foot; flaccidity of the foot muscles
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.3 - 0.5 cun; caution: avoid blood vessel
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
