used to treat: Athletes foot, vulvovaginitis, fungal skin infections, superficial candidiasis.

» Interactions:
herb affecting drug performance: Echinacea purpurea (Echinacea)

• research: The efficacy of econazole against recurrent candidiasis significantly improved when combined with oral or topical echinacea preparations. Additionally, researchers found that the combined therapy reduced the incidence of recurrent infections.

• herbal support: When used for immune stimulation Echinacea is typically taken three times per day at dosages of 300-500 mg (powdered in a capsule or tablet) or 3-5 ml (in liquid preparations). If taken for an extended period of over eight weeks, many practitioners of herbal medicine suggest an occasional interlude of 1-2 weeks without taking the herb to optimize effectiveness.
