first chakra:

• When the energy currents reach the curve of the coccyx there is an abrupt decrease of the physical bone mass and the angle of its bend, resulting in the expansion of the energy vortex. The energy of the first chakra diffuses into a fine web-like field filling the pelvic bowl and partially overlapping the second chakra. This loosely held energy of the first chakra then passes through the pelvis, legs, and down into the earth to complete the grounding of our body antenna. (Smith, p. 53)

• Located at the tip of the spinal cord, at the tailbone or coccyx. The base chakra, it symbolizes grounding and understanding. It also relates to the adrenals, which affect the flight/flight syndrome, and relate to one's state of balance. Over-stimulation of the adrenals is a continuous source of anxiety or ungrounding. By meditating on the coccyx and grounding oneself, one can either stimulate the adrenals if one is lethargic, or sedate them to remove anxiety. COLOR IS RED, MUSICAL KEYNOTE IS C. (Serinus, p. 165)

Represents the Physical Will to Be. Survival instincts; Creates the need to survive, to exist, and to endure through all the hardships and obstacles; directs the life principle, and is the foundation of reason, action, and purpose in life; the fundamental truth or doctrine by which the individual will live; protective center; awareness of defensive capabilities and limitations; where spirit and matter meet; how life relates to form.
The base center anchors the body in physical awareness and existence; the Will to Be facilitates action, thereby creating firm foundations in the material world. This results in strength, endurance, and purposeful goals. The final outcome is confidence. Feeds the adrenal glands, spinal column, prostate, and kidneys. (Easley)

Sacral plexus: Fire Element, origin of the positive polarity (chakras two through six are negative, seven is the synthesis of positive and negative polarity); connects the body and man's highest subjective field. (Van Gelder)
