location: 3 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of L-2, level with Ming Men (GV-4).
actions: strengthens and focuses the Will power; tonifies Kidney Qi, Kidney Yang, Kidney Yin, Jing (Essence) and Yuan (Original) Qi; stabilizes Kidney Qi; spreads and clears Obstructed Kidney Qi; influences the pituitary, adrenals and testes (Worsley, 1975, p. B-20); regulates and facilitates the Water Pathways; eases urination; affects the genitals; resolves Dampness; strengthens the lower back (-, then +)
indications: lack of Will power; spiritual disorientation; malaise; anemia; edema; vomiting; indigestion; abdominal swelling; kidney weakness; nephritis (EAMSS, p. 245); painful urination; urinary tract infection; urinary incontinence; all genital disease; nocturnal emissions; spermatorrhea; prostatitis; impotence; infertility; eczema of the scrotum; swelling and pain in the penis; low back pain; painful stiffness in kidney area; paralysis of lower limb
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.6 - 1.2 cun; for injury to the soft tissues of the lower back, or nephroptosis: transverse insertion, angled toward UB-23, 2 - 3 cun, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension, sometimes spreading to the buttocks; caution: be careful not to insert the needle too deeply, to avoid puncturing the kidneys
moxa: 3 - 10 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 20 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
