definition and etiology
definition:
Warts that are transmitted sexually. Also termed "condylomata acuminata" or "genital warts".
etiology:
The associated microorganism is human papilloma virus (HPV). Others, more rare, are caused by syphilis (condyloma latum).
signs and symptoms

cutaneous warts which may be pink, elongated, pointed, cauliflower shaped, soft, and often pruritic;

course and prognosis
Incubation period of 1-6 months. May be self-limiting or very aggressive, especially in pregnancy. Exposure to warts during birth may lead to future laryngeal papilloma in young children. HPV has been associated with squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix. It is usually asymptomatic in males.
