therapy: gastrointestinal, upper respiratory tract, urinary tract irritation; soothes mucous membranes; skin conditions; vaginitis; it is used to make a gruel for convalescents and for patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers, by adding boiling water to a small quantity of the powder and flavoring with sugar and cinnamon; the mucilage is made by digesting the powder in water, heating gently for an hour and straining; the coarsely powdered bark is also made into poultices for wounds, burns, boils and other skin disorders, where it soothes and draws
