Bupleurum and Chih-shih F. = Si Ni San = "Frigid Extremities Powder"

signs and symptoms: Cold hands and feet, irritability in the chest caused by nervousness, abdominal pain, diarrhea, tenesmus.
tongue and pulse: red tongue with a yellow coating, and wiry pulse.
indications: Liver Qi Stagnation and/or Liver Invading Stomach. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as neurosis, seizure disorders, rhinitis, mastitis, fibrocystic breast disease, pleurisy, intercostal neuralgia, gastritis, gastric ulcer, cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, hepatitis, and intestinal obstruction.
cautions and contraindications:
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 9 grams: bupleurum (chai hu), white peony (bai shao yao).
» 6 grams: chih-shih (zhi shi).
» 3 grams: licorice (gan cao).
modifications:
» for breast abscess, add blue citrus (qing pi).
» for epigastric pain with acid regurgitation, take with Zuo Jin Wan.
» with hypochondriac pain, add corydalis (yan hu suo) and curcuma (yu jin).
» for cholecystitis, add capillaris (yin chen hao), salvia (dan shen), curcuma (yu jin), red peony (chi shao) and lysimachia (jin qian cao).
» for intercostal neuralgia, add trichosanthes peel (gua lou pi), bakeri onion (xie bai) and curcuma (yu jin).
» for acute hepatitis, take with Capillaris C. (Yin Chen Hao Tang).
» for Food Stagnation with abdominal pain, add crataegus (shan zha), malt (mai ya) and chicken's gizzard (ji nei jin).
» for stabbing pain due to Xue Yu (Blood Stasis), add bulrush pollen (pu huang), pteropus (wu ling zhi) and salvia (dan shen).
» for dysmenorrhea, add Chinese angelica (tang kuei) (dang gui), lindera (wu yao), cyperus (xiang fu) and corydalis (yan hu suo).
» for Damp-Heat leukorrhea with lower abdominal pain and low back pain, take with Er Miao San.
» for dysuria, add poria (fu ling).
