astringents:
Alchemilla vulgaris: acute; epidemic diarrhea in infants (British Herbal Pharmacopoeia, p. 19)
Cinnamonum zeylanicum
Geranium maculatum: specific for; particularly in young and old (British Herbal Pharmacopoeia, p. 102)
Myrica cerifera: catarrhal (Felter and Lloyd, p. 1294)
Potentilla tormentilla: (Weiss, pp. 99-100)
Quercus alba or robur: specific for acute diarrhea, use in small frequent doses; may combine with Cinnamonum zeylanicum or some other astringent aromatic (Ellingwood, p. 349; British Herbal Pharmacopoeia, p. 175)
Rubus villosa (root): (Turska)
Vaccinium myrtillus (berries): in medicinal doses, astringent, antiseptic, absorptive (Weiss, p. 102)
anti-motility:
Atropa belladonna (toxic): anti-cholinergic; with dehydration can cause urinary retention, 5-10 drops every 4 hours (Collins)
Datura stramonium (toxic): very small doses half to 3 drops or can use 2X or 3X dilution (Collins)
Papaver somniferum (toxic): tincture: 5-10 drops every 4 hours (Collins)
anti-spasmodic:
Chamomilla spp.
Mentha piperita: enteric-coated capsules (Collins)
Valeriana spp.: if case severe may use 1-2 dr. doses. See effects in 15-30 minutes. (Collins)
Viburnum prunifolium or opulus
anti-emetics:
Eugenia aromatica: carminative, nausea, vomiting, gastric pains; dose: 2 drops (Felter, p. 279; Collins)

Bentonite clay: 1-2 tbsp. (Collins)
Charcoal: 8 tab. or 4 cap., dose based on stool frequency, e.g., 2 stools = 2 doses, 20 stools = 20 doses (Collins)

formula: diarrhea with tenesmus: tinctures of:
Opium (toxic) (camphorated), 2 dr.
Citrullus colocynthis, 5 drops
Dioscorea villosa, 10 drops
fill with water to one oz.
instructions: 40 drops every hour to effect (Collins)
formula: irritant diarrhea:
Aconitum napellus (toxic), 2 drops
Cephaelis ipecacuanha, 5 drops
fill with water to 1 oz.
instructions: half tsp. every hour to effect; then every 3 hours (Collins)
