» conventional diagnoses: chronic gastroenteritis; chronic dysentery; chronic hepatitis

» etiology: excessive consumption of greasy foods, esp. in concert with anger, frustration or emotional constraint.

signs and symptoms

» signs and symptoms:

• loss of appetite

• thirst with desire to drink only small quantities

fullness and distension of the epigastrium

• nausea

• abdominal pain

• loose watery stools

• bitter taste or loss of taste

• feeling of fullness or heaviness in the chest and head

• sallow complexion

• jaundice

• skin eruptions containing fluid

» pulse: slippery, wiry

» tongue: thick yellow sticky or white greasy coating

» principle of treatment: resolve Dampness; clear Heat; restore smooth flow of Liver Qi; tonify Spleen
