Ying Spring, Fire and Tonification point of the Foot Tai Yin (Spleen) channel
location: On the medial side of the big toe, distal to the base of the metatarsophalangeal joint.
actions: stimulates the flow of Qi; dispels Exterior symptom-complex; stimulates thymus (Finkelstein, p. 25); strengthens the Spleen, esp. tonifies Spleen Yang; harmonizes the Stomach; returns Yang and stems counterflow; reduces Food Stagnation; eliminates Dampness and Phlegm caused by Spleen Xu (Deficiency)
indications: restlessness with insomnia; agitated; melancholic; general fatigue; body feels heavy; apoplectic coma; Empty Qi and Empty Xue (Blood); fever; Hot diseases without sweating; foggy vision; sensation of fullness and tightness in chest; vomiting; belching; stomach spasm; epigastric pain; abdominal distention; borborygmi; malabsorption; indigestion; diarrhea or constipation; spermatorrhea; lumbago (D); sciatica (D); sensation of heaviness of the body with swelling of the limbs; limbs cold
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.2 - 0.3 cun
moxa: 1 - 3 cones of direct moxa; 3 - 15 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» Sp-2 (+), Sp-1 (+), Lu-9 (-) and Lu-10 (-) causes sweat and tonifies Dampness to outside (Shanghai, p. 290);
» with GV-24, GV-23, GV-22, GV-21, GV-19, GB-19, GB-20, SI-5, UB-67, UB-63, UB-62 and St-36 for dizziness (Shanghai, p. 686);
» with CV-6, Lv-1, Kd-10, CV-4, Lv-3, Kd-2, Sp-6, CV-3, St-12, St-10, Ht-1, PC-3 and UB-54/40 for irregular menstruation (Shanghai, p. 669) and /or abnormal uterine bleeding (Shanghai, p. 673);
» with Kd-11 to provide emergency treatment for Qi Stagnation lumbar pain that prevents the patient from standing (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 149).
