Trichosanthes, Bakeri and Pinellia C. = Gua Lou Xie Bai Ban Xia Tang = "Trichosanthes Fruit, Chinese Chive, and Pinellia Decoction"

signs and symptoms: Severe chest pain, sometimes radiating to the back; asthma, coughing, labored breathing, vomiting.
tongue and pulse: Thick, greasy tongue coating, and wiry, choppy or slippery pulse.
indications: Chest pain due to Qi Stagnation with severe Phlegm. With the appropriate presentation, this formula may be used in treating conditions conventionally diagnosed as angina pectoris, cardiac insufficiency, cardiac valvular disease, cardiac infarction, and intercostal neuralgia.
cautions and contraindications: Contraindicated for chest pain due to Lung Yin Xu (Deficiency) or Phlegm-Heat, nor should it be used long-term. Contraindicated for a person allergic to alcohol.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 10 grams: trichosanthes seed (gua lou zi).
» 6 grams: bakeri onion (xie bai), pinellia (ban xia).
preparation: Decoct with water and 30 cc. white wine (bai jiu), or with water first and add wine later.
