Ying Spring, Water and Dispersion point of the Hand Yang Ming (Large Intestine) channel
location: On the radial side of the index finger, just distal to metacarpophalangeal joint, at the juncture of the red and white skin.
actions: dissipates Heat; clears the pharynx; cools the Intestines; disperses fullness and blockage of the Intestines; sedates pain; treats contralateral low back pain, according to Dong Shi Jing Chang (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 94); stimulates the channels
indications: fever; shivering; headache; blurring of vision; facial palsy; epistaxis; toothache; swelling of the mandible; tongue tired; sore throat; tonsillitis; throat numbness; esophageal spasm; jaundice; intestinal colic or spasm; diarrhea due to inflammatory causes; renal pain; shoulder, neck and back pain; low back pain
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.2 - 0.3 cun; needled contralaterally to treat low back pain (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 94)
moxa: 2 - 3 cones of direct moxa; 3 - 5 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with LI-4, UB-18, and St-36 (D all) for red, swollen and painful eyes with diminishing vision (Shanghai, p. 683);
» with Lu-2, SI-17, St-12, UB-11, UB-17, Lu-2, Lu-5, St-45, Kd-1 and Kd-2 for throat blockage with Cold and Hot Obstruction (Shanghai, p. 691);
» with UB-13, UB-12, CV-12, St-40, Lu-5 and jia ji of T1 to T4 for pertussis (Shanghai, p. 576).
