definition and etiology

» conventional diagnoses: hypertension; chronic menstrual ailments; anemia.

» etiology: poor nutrition or excessive consumption of cold and raw foods weakens Spleen which is then unable to produce sufficient Xue (Blood) for Liver to store.

signs and symptoms

» signs and symptoms:

• little or no appetite

dizziness

• blurring of vision

• numbness or tingling in limbs

• irregular menstrual cycle with scanty, light colored flow

• sallow/pale facial complexion

loose stools

» pulse: choppy; thin

» tongue: pale, esp. on sides; severe cases may demonstrate slight orange color on sides.

course and prognosis

» principle of treatment: tonify Spleen Qi; nourish Xue (Blood); tonify Liver Xue (Blood)
