Xi Cleft Accumulation point of the Foot Jue Yin (Liver) channel
location: 7 cun superior to the tip of the medial malleolus, on the medial aspect of the tibia, near the medial border.
actions: removes Stagnancy of Liver Qi; harmonizes Qi and Xue (Blood); frees the channels and invigorates the collateral vessels; sedates pain; dispels Damp-Heat
indications: pharyngitis; jaundice; acute hepatitis; hernial disorders; lower abdominal pain; diarrhea; large stools; acute urinary pain; abnormal uterine bleeding; menorraghia; metrorraghia; unable to walk or stand, esp. due to Damp Bi; coldness and rheumatic pain in the lower leg; knee pain; weakness, atrophy and emaciation of the feet with pain, numbness and cold of the skin (Mann, p. 69)
needle technique: perpendicular or slanted insertion, 0.5 - 1.0 cun
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with CV-4, CV-3, St-29, St-28, Sp-6 and Lv-5 for menopausal syndrome; also consider St-30 with lower abdominal pain; UB-23 and UB-32 with low back pain; Sp-13 with lower abdominal mass; and/or Sp-8, Sp-9 and GB-26 with leukorrhea (Liu, p. 406)
