Ying Spring, Fire and Dispersion point of the Foot Jue Yin (Liver) channel

location: On the dorsum of the foot, in the web space between the 1st and 2nd toes, 0.5 cun proximal to the margin of the web.

actions: calms the Shen and eases the Mind; sedates fright; disperses Qi and clears Fire of the Heart; clears the Pericardium; disperses Stagnant Liver Qi; clears and drains Fire of the Liver and Gall Bladder; subdues Yang Shi (Excess); soothes and loosens the Liver to release Liver Qi and remove Qi Depression; eliminates Interior Wind; cools Heat in the Xue (Blood); influences the pancreas (Worsley, 1975, p. B-20); clears the Lower Warmer; relaxes cramps, spasms and convulsions

indications: hysteria; madness; insanity; angers easily; neurasthenia; headache; pain and sensation of swelling in the head; stroke; epilepsy; convulsions in children and infants; chorea; hypertension; insomnia; vertigo; lightheadedness; tinnitus; conjunctivitis; red, swollen, irritated and weepy eyes; glaucoma; dry and irritated throat; cough caused by Liver Fire (Maciocia, p. 454) or associated with fatigue and empty sensation (Mann, p. 68); chest and hypochondriac pain and distension; hematemesis; gastric pain; ulcer or abscess of the breast; urinary retention; orchitis; abnormal uterine bleeding; profuse menses; intercostal neuralgia; pain of hernia; knees swollen and painful; interdigital swelling; carbuncle

needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.2 - 0.3 cun, or oblique insertion, 0.5 - 1.0 cun, producing a local sensation of soreness and distension, possibly spreading throughout foot

moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
