signs and symptoms: Extreme thirst, vomiting, palpitations, fever, vertigo, anxiety, headache, edema, diarrhea, decreased urination.
tongue and pulse: White and greasy tongue coat, floating and rapid pulse.
indications: Wind Edema or Edema due to Dampness. With the appropriate presentation, may be used in conditions conventionally diagnosed as migraine, recurrent headache, trigeminal neuralgia, Meniere's disease, congestive heart failure, vomiting and diarrhea due to a common cold, acute gastroenteritis, seasickness, indigestion, toxemia during pregnancy, ascites from liver cirrhosis, infectious hepatitis, diabetes, acute or chronic nephritis, chronic renal failure, neurogenic bladder syndrome, and hydrocele.
cautions and contraindications: In cases with Spleen or Kidney Qi Xu (Deficiency) causing Dampness, limit the dosage and duration of this formula; symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, vertigo, a bland taste and reduced appetite. Modify in cases of Yin Xu (Deficiency) to protect the Yin.
ingredients: dosage for two days:
» 9 grams: alisma (ze xie).
» 6 grams: poria (fu ling), polyporus (zhu ling), white atractylodes (bai zhu).
» 3 grams: cinnamon twig (gui zhi).
modifications:
» for concurrent edema and Qi Obstruction due to excessive water retention, take with Five-Peel Decoction (Wu Pi Yin).
