Xi Cleft Accumulation point of the Foot Tai Yang (Bladder) channel; Entry point of the Yang Wei Mai (Yang Linking Vessel); Jiao Hui Intersecting point of the Yang Qiao Mai (Yang Motility Vessel) on the Foot Tai Yang (Bladder) channel
location: Anterior and inferior to Shen Mai (Bl-62), in the depression inferior to the cuboid bone, the cuboid sulcus.
actions: dispels Wind and clears Heat; pacifies the Shen; revives the sensory organs from unconsciousness; "drains and disperses Fire from region of eyes by dispersing qing-qi of eyes" (Finkelstein, p. 51); relaxes the muscles, sinews and tendons; invigorates the collateral vessels
indications: seizures; infantile convulsions; children displaying seizure-like shaking of the head with mouth open; syncope; headache, esp. frontal; tinnitus; toothache; vomiting; abdominal tension and cramps; lower abdominal pain; painful urination; spasm of muscles due to diarrhea and vomiting; pain due to hernia; pain in lower back, knee and legs; pain in the lateral aspect of the foot and ankle; pain at bottom of foot
needle technique: perpendicular insertion, 0.3 - 0.5 cun
moxa: 3 - 5 cones of direct moxa; 5 - 10 minutes of indirect moxa with a pole
combinations:
» with GV-24, GV-23, GV-22, GV-21, GV-19, GB-19, GB-20, SI-5, Sp-2, UB-67, UB-62 and St-36 for dizziness (Shanghai, p. 686);
» with GB-2: "When cold damage alone sets both ears to ring, with UB-63 and GB-2 it will be gone with the wind" (Ellis, et al, 1988, p. 233).
