» conventional diagnoses: fever of unknown origin

» etiology: Invasion of Exterior Heat or Wind-Heat penetrating to Xue (Blood) level and generating Internal Wind. (Maciocia, p. 221)

signs and symptoms

signs and syptoms:

high fever

• coma (in severe cases)

• opisthotonos

stiff tongue

• tremor of limbs

convulsions

• stiff neck

• more common in children

» pulse: wiry and rapid

» tongue: deep-red or purple, stiff, thick yellow coating.
